Dental hygienists are specially trained to work with the dentist and play an important part in dental health care. They are mainly concerned with gum health and will professionally clean a patient’s teeth, called a scale and polish. They also show patients how to keep their teeth and gums healthy at home to prevent future dental decay.
As part of the scale and polish, the hygienists will be able to remove stains on teeth which can build up over time from habits such as smoking and drinking red wine, tea, coffee etc.
When you go to visit your dental hygienist, you will be given an initial score and assessment on the condition of your teeth and gums. Each time you visit we will assess your continuing teeth and gum condition against the initial score. You will then be able to see if your dental hygiene and oral healthcare routine is improving over time. This provides an accurate way of measuring your oral healthcare and ensuring that you are staying healthy.
